The world famous Pikes
Peak Ascent/Marathon
Each year in mid-August. "America's Ultimate Challenge", a
marathon and ascent race up and down Pikes Peak. For the marathon, racers run 13
miles in distance and 7,000 feet up Pikes Peak, summit, turn around and run the
same route back down to Manitou Springs. During the weeks and months prior to
the race, hundreds of runners train for the event running up Barr Trail.
